If you’ve received a message indicating that your mailbox is full, don’t worry—this is a common issue and is usually easy to resolve.

Why This Happens

Your mailbox storage includes all emails associated with your account, not just the messages in your Inbox.

Common causes include:

  • Emails in Trash, Spam, or Deleted Items – Messages in these folders still count toward your storage limit until they are permanently deleted.
  • Large Attachments – Emails containing photos, PDFs, videos, or other large files can quickly consume available storage.
  • Spam and Junk Mail – While the mail server filters much of the unwanted email you receive, some spam messages may still make it into your mailbox and continue to use storage space.

How to Free Up Space

To reclaim storage, try the following:

1. Empty Your Trash, Spam, and Deleted Items

This is the most common solution. Simply moving emails to the Trash is not enough—they must be permanently deleted before the storage space is recovered.

2. Delete Emails with Large Attachments

Sort your mailbox by message size and remove emails with large attachments that you no longer need. Messages containing photos, videos, and PDF documents typically use the most storage.

3. Archive Older Messages

If you’d like to keep older emails but don’t need them in your mailbox every day, consider archiving them to your computer or another storage location before deleting them from the mail server.
