The Trash Bin provides an added layer of protection against accidental deletions by allowing deleted content to be recovered before it is permanently removed from your website.

Instead of being immediately deleted, articles, pages, and other supported content types are first moved to the Trash Bin, where they can be restored if needed.

Why Use the Trash Bin?

Mistakes happen. An article may be deleted accidentally, the wrong page may be removed, or content may need to be recovered after a misunderstanding.

The Trash Bin helps protect your website by allowing administrators to restore deleted content quickly and easily.

Deleting Content

When you delete an article, page, or other supported content, it is moved to the Trash Bin instead of being permanently erased.

This allows you to recover the content later if necessary.

Viewing Deleted Content

Administrators can access the Trash Bin from the administrative menu.

The Trash Bin displays deleted content, including information such as:

  • Title
  • Content type
  • Date deleted
  • User who deleted the content (if available)

This makes it easy to locate recently deleted items.

Restoring Content

To restore deleted content:

  1. Open the Trash Bin.
  2. Locate the item you wish to recover.
  3. Select Restore.
  4. Confirm the restoration if prompted.

The content will be returned to its original location and can once again be edited and published.

Permanently Deleting Content

If content is no longer needed, it can be permanently removed from the Trash Bin.

Important: Once an item has been permanently deleted from the Trash Bin, it cannot be restored through Surf CMS.

Be certain you no longer need the content before permanently deleting it.

Best Practices

To get the most from the Trash Bin:

  • Check the Trash Bin before recreating deleted content.
  • Restore articles whenever possible instead of rebuilding them.
  • Periodically review the Trash Bin and permanently remove items that are no longer needed.
  • Limit permanent deletion privileges to trusted administrators.

Peace of Mind for Your Newsroom

Whether you’re managing one editor or an entire newsroom, the Trash Bin provides an important safeguard against accidental deletions.

Instead of worrying about lost articles or pages, your staff can work with confidence knowing that deleted content can often be recovered with just a few clicks.
